| 4/11/08 - The new 802.16e Wave 2-ready WAP 450 access point has been unveiled by communications solutions provider Motorola Inc (NYSE:MOT), expanding its wi4 WiMAX access point portfolio. Motorola said the WAP 450 uses the recently announced 4G common broadband base control unit, has a smaller common equipment cabinet and a more powerful tower-top RF module able to deliver up to 10 watts of power output per sector at the antenna port, improving coverage and capacity. It claimed the WAP 450 provides performance and cost advantages to operators enabling them to lower capital and operating expenditures while extending coverage and allowing more data-rich and bandwidth-intensive applications to meet customer demand. The company confirmed its WAP 450 incorporates diversity antenna techniques which enable Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MIMO) capability, increasing range performance and in-building penetration, along with full mobility support. It will offer the new product in the 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz frequency bands. According to Motorola, its wi4 WiMAX solutions are intended to support fixed, portable, nomadic and mobile applications, with its access point portfolio can be configured to support a broad range of coverage, capacity and application scenarios.
